The International Musical Eisteddfod takes place every summer and is one event you should definitely go to at least once in your life.
The first International Musical Eisteddfod was held in Llangollen in June 1947. It was funded solely by local people who hoped that the ancient Welsh eisteddfod tradition could provide a way of healing the wounds of the Second World War, and help to promote lasting peace. It has since become one of the world’s great musical festivals.
Each year around 4,000 performers from over 35 countries come to Llangollen. Notable performers of the past include Luciano Pavorotti, Yehudi Menuhin, Placido Domingo, Margot Fonteyn, Bryn Terfel, Kiri Te Kanawa and many others.
