Here’s a (short) list of things to do when you come to stay at Hall Farm Cottages. It’s not an exhaustive (or exhausting) list. But it does highlight some of our local treasures.

Llangollen: where Wales Welcomes the World. The International Musical Eisteddfod is one event you should definitely go to at least once in your life. Llangollen is also home to Dinas Bran Castle, the Ladies of Llangollen and Valle Crucis Abbey

Motor Safari, Landrover and 4 x 4 experience, Seren Country Activity Centre, Ruthin. The team at this outdoor activity centre has welcomed intrepid adventurers from across the world – not to mention Top Gear – during decades of muddy fun. Head off around the Seren parklands in a 4×4 or even try your hand at quad biking – a range of options aim to thrill.

While you’re in Llangollen, take a boat trip down the canal and walk across Telford’s Aqueduct at Pontcysyllte, the ‘River in the Sky’ and a World Heritage Site.

Chirk Castle
Chirk Castle

Chirk Castle is another ‘must ‘see’ with fabulous wooded walks . Completed in 1310, Chirk is the last Welsh castle from the reign of Edward I that’s still lived in today. Don’t miss the medieval tower and dungeon, 17th-century Long Gallery, grand 18th-century state apartments, servants’ hall and historic laundry (which is a lot more fun than it sounds!).

Erddig House – an atmospheric house, featuring a 1,200-acre country park to walk in and formal walled garden, Erddig is one of Britain’s finest historic houses. And it’s less than 6 miles away.

Chester
Chester

Chester: just over the border, a great Roman and Medieval walled city. A city that is nearly 2000 years old. You can walk the walls, stroll down by the river or shop in the famous Rows, a unique blend of medieval and modern.

Eglwyseg Mountain: the area is best known for the stunning limestone escarpment, the Eglwyseg Rocks. Where else could you walk to World’s End? A real place, and part of a walk that’s parallel to Offa’s Dyke.

Coed Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre. Trails for all abilities. Bike hire, courses, bike shop and  a great cafe. Also a beautiful  place to walk

All of these are within a very short drive of Hall Farm. If you feel like venturing further afield there’s climbing in Snowdonia, World Heritage Site castles, forests, mountain biking, long distance paths, horse riding, fishing and canoeing on the River Dee and a hundred and one other things.
